The dawn of a new day! We decided to chip off and generally damage the information on the walls – Tiberius’ first Unseen Servant was just left to chip away for an hour – so the next soldiers won’t find anything to present to Sauros. We left the note “users of the forge must follow the path of kings’’…
After first breakfast, we opened the door between the ruined mural and the dwarven inscriptions: an inter-room with a large door to the ‘south’ (down on the map), and a smaller door to the ‘west’. The larger door opens into a large cavern, three levels down, anvils scattered about. A stone door on the middle level has runes identifying it as “Apprentice Room”, and another stone door on the lower level (labeled “barracks”), look intact. The smaller door from the inter-room opened into a storage room with numerous rotted cabinets.
Entering the cavernous forge area, we went down to the bottom and opened the door to the barracks area: also three- tiered. Stone bunks, but no footlockers, provided plenty of sleep space, but the lowest level has busted up slabs – something once burrowed up through the floor, scattering the floor slabs about. A door out the other side of the barracks sez “Path of the Fauleen Kings”. (Fauleen were ancient humans that worshipped – and consulted with – the dead.)
An ancient shrub sits at the site where something burrowed up. When Sheefra tried to pull it up for re-planting, it attacked – it’s one of manticore’s abominations (in fact, the same one that thinks it is Tiberius’ sister, Bilobina)! Tiberius got the killing blow – his first Fire Bolt ever, and it was a crit!
With her last breath, Ty’s sister told us we must walk the Seven-Key Path…then she passed away…Sheefra dropped the Laurent’s seed on the remains: instant action occurred, surprising even the Laurent was surprised! Within a few minutes, a mighty tree formed, digging deep roots, and busting a hole in the roof for natural light.
Tiberius had an Epiphany about the CATAPULT spell! (christened Bilobina’s Catapult…)
Checking out the Apprentice Room, we found some phrases in elvish and druidic: the story of how the natural energy of this place has been amplified – at the cost of reducing natural energy of the forest to the west (which is now a barren plain).
Beyond the Apprentice Room (“only a true dwarf may enter” – Baureen shaved his mustache!), a long hall full of crafting tables, demonstrating dwarven wares; a hologram of a golden dwarf appears at each table and tells the story of crafting development of the associated weapon or armor type. Ty grabbed a nice handax.
The next room is the Hall of the Worthy Dwarf (one can spar with a golem, to demonstrate skill at arms). Magma is dribbling from above into the center of the room…we battled the golem; the fighting seemed to summon some Fauleen zombies…Ty used his new Catapult spell to fling the handax he pilfered to some effect! We concluded the session mid-battle – the monk is just about to kick something in the nuts…
